Such was the interest in this novel that, even before publication, rave comments were coming in, and subsidiary-rights sales were being negotiated. Bookspan bought the book-club rights for Quality Paperback Club and Triangle Classics. First serial and Spanish rights are spoken for, and rights for several other languages are under consideration. Several inquiries about the film rights have been received.

A sizeable portion of the first printing was pre-ordered before publication.

This title is Wildcat Press's first trade paperback original. The beautiful cover, with its embossing and foil stamping, was created jointly by Wildcat and noted photographer Jay Fraley, who has always designed our covers. Fraley's work has attracted growing attention in the last few years; Rizzoli is publishing a coffee-table edition of his work. Phoenix Color, long a distinguished printer of book covers in the industry, which recently became a full-service job house, prints the edition.
